Richmond Plantation journal, 1859-1860.

Volume (1859 Jan. 13-1860 June 21) containing an overseer's journal kept by Anthony Weston, Benjamin Huger's Richmond Plantation overseer. Entry on back endpaper notes Weston moved to Richmond Plantation on January 13, 1859. Entries concern activities on the rice plantation primarily related to rice cultivation (plowing, manuring, cleaning ditches, threshing, winnowing). Also mentioned are corn, peas, potatoes, and livestock. Accounts (1859, 1860) are expenses (primarily for food goods) of Anthony Weston with Dr. B. Huger. Entries include amount of rice grown, used, sent to market, and sent to the mill; fields and acreage; list of goods (mostly food) and their prices; and expenses for "my own house" (1859, primarily food). Entries also list the names of coopers and the number of barrels made, allowances (mostly food) given to slaves, the names of various slaves, and the number of slaves on the plantation.
